Today we interview Mr. Ahmed Al-Mheiri, Partner, Kopi Ketjil – a rising star in the coffee world.

1. How did you enter the franchise business?

I Became interested into coffee business after one sip of coffee i tried at famous cafe brand and i was not able to drink it as it was very bitter black coffee

The incident happened in Singapore in 2017

I took some courses in coffee and traveled to Indonesia where i met a lady having some great passion for coffee and i asked for a franchise of the brand so called Kopi Ketjil ( Meaning Small coffee in Indonesian)

2. Where and how did the idea of your concept come from?

From Indonesia and the local market surroundings in the coffee scene.

3. What inspired the brand name?

Naturally, Coffee is small and our Brand Name / logo resembles a hand saying it is small coffee or bean but has a great value.

4. What is the story behind the brand’s logo?

The Logo means a Hand saying it is a small beans.

5. What makes your brand different from your competitors?

It is exclusive specialty Indonesian focused brand.

6. What are the essential qualities that you look for in a franchisee?

Passion for Coffee and competitive advantage in business.

7. How long does it take, on average, for your franchisee to realize their investment?

On average, 3 to 4 years.

8. What was the major challenge you faced in your career, and how did you overcome it?

Shortage of roasted coffee at start. I used to fly back and forth between UAE and Indonesia for sourcing out coffee.

Since then, we built our own roasting facilities in Abu Dhabi to cover any shortages of coffee.

Finding the right people who share the same passion was difficult but not impossible.

8.1.What is your best achievement?

I’m happy to say that:

Kopi ketjil in Abu Dhabi and UAE serves, on a daily basis, over 200 clients in three branches.

Kopi Ketjil staffs are not leaving to other companies because they like their jobs.

Our coffee farmers are increasing in number while making good amount of money.

9. How does your business day start?

By talking to Kopi Ketjil staff and checking how happy they are.

10. What was your best moment throughout your franchise career?

Meeting our coffee farmers.

11. Where do you see your brand in the next 5 years?

I see improvement every da.

12. Any tips you want to impart to our readers who want to be in the franchise industry?

Come with passion and study the idea well and move forward and take risks.
