Interview: Angelo Magni of I Love Panzerotti

In this article, we share with you the insights from Mr Angelo Magni of I Love Panzerotti.

I Love Panzerotti – sell famous Italian mini fried and baked Calzones. I Love Panzerotti was founded by Angelo Magni (www.angelomagni.it) in August 2018 and developed together with his cousin Giovanni Bonati (www.giovannibonati.it).

1. How did you enter in the franchise business?

The company was born and structured with the idea to become a franchise. We opened our first shop six months ago, and then the second two weeks ago, and as soon as we opened we were already receiving many organic franchising requests from all over the World.

2. Where and how did the idea for your concept come from?

I was in New York City to record an album (I’m also a songwriter) and noticed there were no “panzerotti” places. In Italy, they are very common. So I started a crowdfunding campaign among friends and gathered 170 investors. Also, we collaborate with a charitable organization called Mary’s Meals: for each unit of food sold we guarantee food and instruction to a child in need.

3. What inspired the brand name?

It is common in Italy when you ask someone if they like panzerotti, to hear the answer “I love panzerotti!”. So, I took this expression and made it into our brand name.

4. What is the story behind the brand logo?

There are several elements to it: we used the heart because the aim is to provide food which is made with the heart, truly Italian, and at the same time help children in need. In fact, there is a subliminal stylized white shape of Africa inside the heart. Also, because we started in New York and it is common to see the “I Love New York” logo on t-shirts, we thought it would be a good reference also. The fact that we use a cursive font is because we produce our products fully handmade and fresh, including the dough, in each shop.

5. What makes your brand stand out from your competitors?

The quality of the ingredients, the special process of dough preparation, the expertise of our chefs. And also, the aim to help children in need and the in-store projection technology we use.

6. What are the essential qualities that you look for in a franchisee?

It needs to be simple, of top quality and easily replicable.

7. How long does it take, in an average, for your franchisee to realize their investment?

About two years.

8. What was the major challenge you faced in your career and how did you overcome it?

There are challenges every day, and the more you grow with your business, the bigger the challenges can become. I have acquired a certain inner peace of heart throughout the years through Faith and I let God take care of problems. They always get solved.

9. What is your best achievement?

I just entered the franchise universe, so this is yet the best moment!

10. Where do you see your brand in the next 5 years?

I can imagine that we’ll be able to create about 100 new shops in that time frame.

11. Any tips you want to impart to our readers who want to be in the franchise industry?

I would enter into a franchise deal after doing a lot of research on the specific market where I want to operate and preferably choose a field where you’ve worked before.
