A doggy holiday for your best friend at Barking Mad

Barking Mad is the oldest and largest pet care franchise in the UK today and is purposefully present in the Republic of Ireland. They invented dog home boarding. All aspects of the dog boarding service are organized by regional Barking Mad branches, including pairing the dogs with the right hosts, picking up and dropping off the dogs, and customer communications. Customers thus benefit from peace of mind with a specialized service that concentrates on the unique requirements of each dog.

How the story began

In May 2000, Lee Dancy established Barking Mad in Kirkby Lonsdale, Cumbria, as an alternative to kennels. Finding an alternative to typical kennels proved to be very tough for Lee after she booked a trip to America and realized she needed pet care. For Lee’s anxious dog, who needs attention, affection, and reassurance while she was gone, dog boarding facilities were not an option.

Problem turns into solution

Research indicated that there was a need for something novel, so she started working on a completely original idea. Barking Mad became a franchise business in year 2 after receiving inquiries from all around the UK shortly after the company’s start in 2000.

Barking Mad joined the group of franchise brands that already included ChipsAway, Ovenclean, Metro Rod, Metro Plumb, and Willow Pumps in 2016.
