Story of the popular American Diner – Denny’s

There is a good chance that you have heard the name Denny’s before. It is one of the most popular American Diner franchises in the world. Their philosophy is simple, they love to feed people. Its not just a place to to feed their customers with food, but also nourish their guests’ lives by giving a location to have wonderful conversations, an opportunity to gather with family and friends, and a place that feeds the body and spirit of everyone who walks through their doors.  

Their story and milestones are many, but here are some important ones 

1953 – This is when it all began as Harold Butler and Richard Jezak opened Danny’s Doghnuts in Lakewood, Califonia USA.  

1959 – The year when they changed the name from Danny’s Coffee Shop to Denny’s Coffee Shops.  

1961 – Denny’s Coffee Shop in now Denny’s 

1967 – Their first international outlet in Acapulco, Mexico.  

1977 – Hank Aaron is honored with the introduction of The Grand Slam 

1981 – Reached it 1,000 outlet milestone 

1991 – They move their HQ from Irvine, California to Spartanburg, South Carolina 

1994 – Denny’s is the largest sponor for Save the Children, a national charity. 

2000 – Denny’s is ranked no#1 in America’s 50 Best Companies for Minorities” by Fortune Magazine 

2010 – As Denny’s opens its 1,600th location, they expand to Travel Centers and university locations with their Value Menu 

2017 – Denny’s On Demand is launched as their online platform for 14/7 service  

2018 – Mobile Relief Diner is launched to feed the needy 

2020 – Virtual brands like Burger Den and The Meltdown are launched 

2021 – They continue their journey of 1,600+ restaurants across USA and 14 countries
